Ruapehu

Ruapehu is perhaps better known as National Park and the region is best recognised for the world-class ski fields. The National Park region is volcanic zone and Mt Ruapehu last erupted in spectacular fashion in 1995. For most of us though it is an area of spectacular beauty.

The mountains of Ruapehu, Ngaruahoe and Tongariro provide the ultimate playground with snow skiing, abseiling, climbing, tramping, caving, white water rafting, 4×4 driving all making up some of the activities in this region.

Employment; the smaller towns nearby all offer possibilities as does Taupo in the nearby region. In winter the occasional ski-mad diesel mechanic can pick up work working on Diesel Generator sets and snow groomers on both Whakapapa and Turoa ski fields.
