Business and Investment Visas

Entrepreneur Work Visa

If you qualify for this visa you will be able to set up a business in New Zealand, either temporarily or as a step to residency.

You’ll need to invest NZ$100,000 or more as a general rule, although there are some exceptions to this in sectors such as Science or ICT or if your business has export potential. This visa also has a points system and the current level required is 120. You will need to provide a business plan.

You can stay 12 months in the start-up phase and a further 24 months once you’ve proved you have set up the business. Partners and dependent children aged 19 and under can be included on this visa. This visa may be able to be extended a further 3 years or you may be able to apply for residency.

Investor 1 Resident Visa

You may apply for this visa if you have at least NZ$10 million to invest in New Zealand over a 3 year period. You must keep NZ$10 million in New Zealand for 3 years and you need to spend 44 days in each of the last 2 of the 3 years in New Zealand. You can then stay in New Zealand indefinitely and include your partner and dependent children aged 24 and under.

Investor 2 Resident Visa

If you have previous business experience and NZ$3 million to invest over a 4 year period you may apply for this visa. You must be aged 65 or under.

You will need to submit an expression of interest (EOI) and you must have at least 3 years of business experience. You can stay in New Zealand indefinitely and include your partner and dependent children under the age of 24.

The EOIs are selected every 2 weeks and if you are invited to apply you have 4 months to send the application.
