United Auto is in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, where this role is based, with Honiara itself home to a population of 93,000 people.
United Auto primarily focuses on Nissan and Isuzu trucks and light commercial vehicles. The company's service operations employ a medium sized team of technicians along with support staff.
The role at United Auto
Reporting to the General Manager, the Service Manager has direct reports including a Procurement Officer, customs staff, and a Service Advisor. There is also direct contact with the technical staff and clients.
Key job functions and accountabilities:
The Service Manager carries out a range of duties related to managing the service department and workshop including:
- Leading and supervising employees in the service departments
- Manage inventory levels and obsolescence
- Drive labour sales
- Focus on technician productivity and efficiency
- Accurately cost and close jobs
- Consistently achieve or exceed financial targets
- Manage department costs within budget
- Solving complex logistical and technical issues
- Optimising market share
- Working with staff to achieve great CRM
- Train technical staff and get stuck into the workshop and assist staff when required
The background sought
Ideally you will have operated as a Service Manager in a franchise dealership and an added bonus would be if you had some experience in the diesel sector, but this is not a requirement. Alternatively, you could have held a service supervisory role and possess the ability to motivate and drive a team and happy to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty when required.
You will have had exposure to service job workflow and have managed work in progress, with a strong, process driven, analytical, and detail-oriented nature.
It would be ideal to possess a knowledge of international trade and logistics and importing and/or possess experience with procurement but this is not essential.
United Auto is open to discussing backgrounds broadly in line with service in automotive or in the diesel sector.
Candidates should have an interest in engaging with the community and developing employees in addition to the duties noted.
