This is a unique dual-focus position, offering a balanced 50/50 split between hands-on technical work and supervisory leadership. You will lead by example, ensuring the delivery of world-class service while directly mentoring and coordinating a team of technicians.

Key responsibilities
Technical/Hands-On
- Perform advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and major component overhauls on a range of heavy construction equipment
- Lead by example in executing high-quality workshop servicing, rebuilds, and pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) to manufacturer specifications
- Serve as a technical expert, utilising advanced diagnostic software to resolve the most challenging hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical faults
- Provide on-site technical support for critical field service jobs
- Provide daily leadership, direction, and technical mentorship to a team of workshop technicians
- Assist the Service Manager with workflow coordination, job allocation, and prioritisation to meet deadlines and KPIs
- Conduct quality control checks on completed work to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and efficiency standards
- Foster a positive, safe, and collaborative team environment, promoting best practices and continuous improvement
- Support with on-the-job training, coaching, and the development of junior team members
- Act as a key liaison between technicians, the parts department, and service coordinators
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements
- A relevant automotive trade qualification, preferably as a Diesel Mechanic or Construction/Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic
- Proven post qualification experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably within the construction equipment industry
- Ability to be a senior technical mentoring team leader.
- Expert-level diagnostic and problem-solving skills with modern hydraulic and electronic systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate a team
- Excellent organisational skills and a commitment to safety, quality, and process
- A full clean and current New Zealand driver's licence (WTR, Class 2 or higher is advantageous).
