Mt Taranaki/ New Plymouth district
Population
66,603 (2001 Census)
The volcanic cone of Mt Taranaki dominates
New Plymouth and the region is a surfies, climbers and tramper's
paradise. Little known worldwide is that the film "the last Samuri"
featuring Tom Cruise was filmed in this region due to the mountains
almost identical shape to Japan's Mt Fuji. The mountain itself is
accessible by road, trails and climbing with stunning views right
down the coast. On clear day from the peek of Mt Taranaki you can
see Auckland which is some 6 hours drive away.
New
Plymouth has an exceptional farming and agricultural industry making
jobs in this sector easy to come by for diesel mechanics, parts
personnel and sales people. The region also has a small number of
quality dealerships both general and luxury vehicles.
