After Sales Managers, Dealer Principals,
General Managers, Service Directors, Regional Managers, CEO's CFO's
Wage and Salary rates as at May 2011.
Please note: as Automotive Employment NZ Ltd is involved
with new hires, these rates are for new hires not existing employees.
We have attempted to be as accurate as possible and
to provide guidelines for the most popular sectors of the New Zealand
motor industry but take no responsibility for the accuracy of the
information. Any hiring decision should be based on a range of knowledge
from a variety of sources.
Please check the date the last salary review was completed
as salary rates obviously change over a period of time.
It is possible our opinion will differ from other independent surveys
however the information is based on actual hires occurring through
Automotive Employment NZ Ltd. All rates assume experience in a specific
fields of expertise and where applicable the relevant industry qualifications.
Employees should note that while these rates may provide
a guide, to gain an accurate indication of rates you may need to
consider how your skills and experience compare to others in the
work place. Your work performance, stability of overall employment,
knowledge of product, development of your skills and or qualifications,
personal grooming, communication skills and the length of service
you have extended to your current employer may all impact on potential
earnings. These aspects of your employment should also be weighed
against the economic conditions prevailing in the location you work
or intend to move to.
After Sales Managers/ Group Service Managers
/ Service Directors
An after sales manager will earn between $85,000 and
$140,000 dependant on the size of the site. At the top end of this
scale the manager would have high responsibilities for multiple
staff and managers but these positions are of this rare to come
by and pressure on profitability during the global financial crisis
saw a number of these roles made redundant.
A substantial revision at the top end of this scale
has been made for the May 2011 review. We again stress this is for
the appointment of new hires and with more buoyant trading conditions
now emerging at risk portions of income could see overall increases
in income emerge.
At the lower end of the pay scale an aftersales manager
may hold the joint role of parts and service manager and have a
lower number of staff reports.
Regional Managers
Salaries here range from $90,000 to $150,000 with
a content of at risk income.
Due to the wide variances in responsibility between aftermarket
and OEM operations in NZ it is recommended employees with relevant
skills discuss their current job description with Automotive Employment
NZ director Russell Phillips or Senior Consultant Mike Perez.
It is entirely possible your off shore role of Regional
Manager may be considered a more senior role in New Zealand. The
converse also applies in that it is possible your role could be
less senior. Additional variances under such circumstances may apply.
Dealer Principals/General Managers Franchise
Sites
2010 and 2011 have proven to present an abundance
of opportunity for Dealer Principals located in New Zealand and
for those considering permanent relocation.
Employees or Job seekers in this field need to consider
the role of Dealer Principal can differ significantly when it comes
to the responsibilities held. So too can the remuneration.
The following estimates are our opinion of current
rates; clearly multiple opinions will exist as to what companies
are prepared to pay for such roles. Your experience, proven record
of achievement and responsibilities may all combine to provide an
income both greater and less than indicated below.
Remuneration for Dealer Principals is often set from
historical hires with a group or company. A new and inexperienced
Dealer Principal for an example may not have the ability to command
rates indicated. Past hires may also influence what represents perceived
fairness. Some companies will also choose to provide a lower base
and a higher at risk content.
Dealer Principals in the top 5% of the New Zealand
Motor Industry rarely emerge as job seekers. The law of supply and
demand rules in such cases and can substantially impact remuneration.
15 to 20 staff, franchise site. $100'000 package will
have an element of at risk content and include a company vehicle,
such role are perhaps more correctly a branch management role in
a new vehicle site.
20 to 30 Staff. $120'000 to $140'000. Base increases
but will still require some at risk content.
30 to 50 staff: Income circa $200'000. Base will around
100K and achievement of total income estimation will be dependent
on achieving predetermined KPI's.
50 to 70 staff. Income circa $225'000. Base increases
to approximately $120'000, achievement of total income estimation
will be dependent on achieving predetermined KPI's.
70 to 90 staff. Income circa $250'000. Base likely
to increase to $140'000. Achievement of total income estimation
will be dependent on achieving predetermined KPI's.
90 plus staff. Contact Russell Phillips or Automotive
Employment NZ's Senior Consultant, Mike Perez for an estimation.
General Management roles in other areas
Massive variances in responsibility exist between
aftermarket and OEM operations in a wide variety of motor industry
operations including the heavy equipment, heavy transport and parts
sectors of industry.
It is impossible to provide one broad brush covering
rates in this area which will be open to debate. Instead employers
seeking guidance in this area as to appropriate rates should discuss
requirements and likely available talent with consultancy director
Russell Phillips. Once we have completed an assessment of responsibilities
we will be able to provide our opinion of the remuneration scale.
