Queenstown is a tourism mecca with a population
of 17,000 at the 2001 census and probably a third more than this
at today's date.
The mountains of Queenstown lakes district have
made Queenstown a world class ski resort with the Remarkables, Coronet
and Cardona all offering superb facilities. Bungy jumping, jet boating,
historic gold mining towns, trout and salmon fishing, white water
rafting, snow skiing, climbing, parachuting, base jumping, heli-skiing,
spectacular tramping in the Routeburn and Kepler world famous tracks
are all activities in this region to enjoy. To top it all off the
nightlife is superb given the popularity of this region as a tourism
centre.
Employment can be found occasionally for mechanics
with skills on a wide range of equipment and the occasional role
for an auto electrician also surfaces.
