Free Assistance for Motor Industry Businesses in Christchurch

There can be no question the Christchurch earthquake has been a catastrophic event.

Recognising many in Christchurch may be challenged with housing and employment related problems, Automotive Employment NZ believes we may be positioned to lend a helping hand to businesses and employees within the Christchurch region motor industry.

How we can help?

We have employers in a variety of locations seeking staff. We believe a number of our client employers around New Zealand will be prepared to offer fixed term employment agreements to assist those temporarily displaced. Automotive Employment NZ will coordinate this service free of charge for companies in Christchurch and the employers who are prepared to offer and honour these fixed term contracts.

Our Intent is to:

  1. Assist Christchurch employers to be able to retain key staff long term and be positioned to take advantage of improving market conditions once reconstruction begins by having these staff able to return to work.
     
  2. Assist employees who may have lost property /employment to find temporary or fixed term employment enabling them to return to Christchurch as soon as they are able.

Specifically ...

  • We need business owners /managers nationwide to contact our consultants and list as many vacancies as you may have available and confirm your willingness to honour the fixed term agreements. This service is free and we will need a variety of jobs to offer those displaced over and above those listings we have already received.
     
  • We need to hear from employees. We need to know of your availability to take up these fixed term agreements and a willingness to honour the agreement to return to your place of work at the end of the fixed term agreement.
     
  • We need to talk to businesses in Christchurch who may need to reduce staff numbers for set fixed terms.

Please note: The aforementioned assistance plan is provided free for Christchurch employers and employees only and those client employers who are prepared to assist these companies and individuals under this plan.

Our Permanent placement service still requires the support of our nationwide clients. Should employees participating in this program decide to become permanent employees of the participating business and the participating business offers them permanent employment, our normal terms and conditions will then apply to the employer.

We note the Motor Trade Association is also continuing their Canterbury relief fund and are currently seeking donations. Details from the MTA relief fund follow.

We highlight these donations can be made to directly benefit the Christchurch Motor Industry through the MTA relief fund.

How to make a donation
By direct credit into the following bank account: 06-0513-0016729-00 stating your business name, MTA member number and using the reference MTA Relief Fund.

You can also contribute by cheque, made out to Motor Trade Association and posted to MTA Canterbury Relief Fund, PO Box 9244, Marion Square, Wellington 6141.
