The Garden City and wider Canterbury region
The
population of Christchurch is 363,364 according to the 2001 census
with a 2002 estimate of the total population of the Canterbury region
as 503,800.
Christchurch being the largest populated area of the
Canterbury region is a thriving and growing city situated on the
East Coast of the South Island and is known for its abundance of
beautiful gardens.
The region has a particularly strong presence in the
heavy equipment and farm machinery sectors as well as strong heavy
transport dealerships and all major marques represented in the light
vehicle sector. Consequently the full range of vacancies are usually
available.
The
wider Canterbury region like many other parts of New Zealand is
the kind of scenery seen only on post cards. Aside from the full
range of entertainment facilities found in most cities, the Canterbury
region has everything from salmon and trout fishing, to mountain
climbing, snow skiing. Lakes, world class walks, heritage trails,
jet boating, camping, beaches, rivers and within two hours from
Christchurch the famous "Hanmer Springs" thermal hot pool
resort.
The Canterbury region is one of New Zealand's
richest farming regions with literally hundreds of miles of green
wide open spaces with breathtaking mountainous backdrops. Whether
you are an adventure seeker, family or city dweller Christchurch
holds something for everyone.
